About

The Warrior Alliance, a Georgia-based nonprofit serving veterans and their families, seeks a full-time Vice President of Development to lead all aspects of the client’s strategic fundraising plan. The Vice President will report directly to the President/CEO and will work closely with the staff and volunteer board members. The Vice President will be an important member of the client’s leadership team and be considered a key client representative to our funders, sponsors, and business partners.

The Vice President will possess strong interpersonal and communication skills, strong analytical and organizational skills, and an ability to build and implement a comprehensive, results-oriented fundraising plan. Key components of this plan will include strategies, goals, and timelines to achieve our annual operational fundraising objectives. This individual will be responsible for achieving a sustainable revenue portfolio mix, and demonstrate the ability to create and secure new individual donors, sponsors, corporate partners, and philanthropic organizations.

As a key organizational leader for the Warrior Alliance, the Vice President exhibits strengths in cultivating new relationships and investors at a local and national level. This individual is skilled in professional speaking in public forums about the client and is savvy at driving revenue opportunities at all levels of corporate and philanthropic executive management.

The salary range for this position is up to $125,000, based upon experience and qualifications.

Job Description

PRIMARY ROLE:

  • Develop and implement a short and long-term development plan to meet established fundraising goals and objectives of the organization. This includes securing operating funds, support for designated client programs, and marketing sponsorships.
  • Perform donor research and prospecting across national, regional, and local funders and identify key targets for client solicitation.
  • Work with client leadership to establish strategic relationships across company and organization executive management, community affairs, marketing, and foundations to build client partnerships and multiple funding sources.
  • Build an individual donor program that includes gaining support and cultivating long-term donations from major gift supporters and establishing a significant renewable donor base.
  • Oversee all gift processing and donor acknowledgement, the donor database, and financial reporting.
  • Participate in client events and activities and fosters significant pride and excitement for fundraising efforts.

Desired Characteristics

  • Be clearly articulate and promote a strong case of need for veteran philanthropy and continuously create and sustain a robust pipeline of new funding.
  • Be capable of securing large multi-year funding relationships of >$1M and achieve ongoing renewals.
  • Demonstrate ability to develop and implement innovative fundraising programs to create new revenue streams from donor events, cause-marketing, earned income, and peer-peer fundraising.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Strategic Direction

  • Embrace the mission and strategic priorities of the client and uphold and model our core values and operating principles.
  • Work closely with the President/CEO to develop and position annual giving goals and priorities consistent with the client’s operating and program needs.
  • Think strategically, creating competitive and breakthrough strategies to build business opportunities locally and nationally.

Board Liaison

  • Create a strong fundraising message that appeals to potential donors and work collaboratively with the leadership team and Board of Directors to integrate messages in publications, reports, and collateral materials for cultivating and stewarding donors.
  • Lead the client’s board development committee by working collaboratively to develop strong solicitation, engagement, and stewardship programs for key constituencies.

Department Management

  • Design and manage an integrated, multi-channel strategy of programs that engage donors and ultimately move them into personal, relationship-based development efforts.
  • Enhance the annual giving team’s use of digital marketing (email, websites, social media) and analytics to improve segmentation and messaging and to create a personal and positive experience for donors.
  • Ensure that all legal and funding compliance reporting requirements are satisfied and monitor portfolio management metrics.
  • Cultivate a professional network of colleagues at other veteran service organizations to serve as a resource for new ideas.
  • Organize fundraising events, track results, and establish an ongoing process for donor cultivation and communication.

Preferred Experience

Bachelor’s Degree or higher in business development and fundraising or related field and at least 10 years of experience in major fundraising.

  • Strong interpersonal skills, including tact, diplomacy, confidentiality, and judgement.
  • Interest and competence to interact with a diversity of accomplished individuals.
  • Team player with a positive attitude, proactive approach, customer-service mindset, and ability to motivate.
  • Excellent project management skills - ability to take lead on multi-functional projects, manage and prioritize multiple responsibilities and competing demands, and adapt to frequent and unexpected changes.
  • Strong attention to detail and able to develop, implement, and analyze strategies with minimal oversight.
  • Strong communication skills (written, oral, and presentation) to effectively communicate.
  • High degree of competency with Salesforce and related tools required for the position.
  • Active engagement in professional development and current on best practices.
  • Ability to present and sell to all levels of senior and executive management.

Physical Demands & Work Environment
While performing the duties of this position, the employee is required to sit; stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle and feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl; talk and hear; engage in moderately strenuous physical activity both indoors and out; and smell. The employee may occasionally lift or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions and may frequently walk on slippery or uneven surfaces.

Travel:
Travel is primarily local during the regular business day. Overnight and out-of-area travel may also be required.

EDUCATION:
Bachelor’s degree required.
